Jingle Bell 5K to return to Hartfield

Scores of runners surge forward from the Steamboat Restaurant-clubhouse area at Piankatank River Golf Course at the start of the 2021 Jingle Bell 5K. Among those leading the pack is Cameron Stearns (No. 139), then-18, of Mathews, who went on to finish first in the 3.1-mile race with an 18-minute, 31 second time. Katrina Borden, then-34, of Edgewater, Md., had the fastest female time — 23 minutes, 30 seconds. (Photo by Don Richeson)

The Jingle Bell 5K and Kids Fun Run will challenge and entertain runners of all ages on Saturday, Dec. 10. The run, organized by the Middlesex Family YMCA, will take runners “o’er” the fields of Hartfield’s Piankatank River Golf Club. Laughing all the way, children will follow Santa and keep an eye out for the Grinch.

This fundraising event makes it possible for all adults and children to participate in Middlesex Family Y camps, after-school programs, and fitness classes. And, the “one horse open sleigh” (or cart) will fulfill teachers’ wish lists for extra school supplies for their students.

Y members, runners and others are encouraged to drop off school supply donations at the Middlesex Family Y at 11487 General Puller Highway in Hartfield or at the Jingle Bell 5K and Kids Fun Run.

To be one of the 200 runners dashing through the snow (or sunshine) in the Jingle Bell 5K or the Kids Fun Run, register online.

For information on sponsorships, call Middlesex Family YMCA Executive Director Dennis “Buzz” Lambert at 804-316-9191.
