Supervisors slate retreat, may extend tax due date

by Larry Chowning –

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors is conducting a board retreat on Friday, Nov. 18, starting at 9 a.m. at the Deltaville Maritime Museum (DMM) in Deltaville to discuss in general the future of Middlesex County and to give the board members an opportunity to share ideas.

At the meeting, the board may take action on extending the due date of the 2022 personal property taxes beyond the current Dec. 5 due date, and extending the penalty date beyond the current Dec. 6 date.

Middlesex County Board of Supervisors Chairman Lud Kimbrough said in an email this week that from “my discussions with other supervisors there appears to be wide support for this extension.

“The board of supervisors is aware of the potential financial stress experienced by some taxpayers who just received their tax bill, and some who have not even received their bills yet due to postal service delivery delays.”

The current invoice is due in just a few weeks, and for this reason the board will consider the due date extension immediately. The results will be available on the county website and will be published in the Southside Sentinel next week, said Kimbrough.
