Middlesex locals contribute to Christchurch soccer success

The Christchurch School soccer team captured the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Division II state championship Monday, defeating North Cross 2-1 at City Stadium in Richmond. The Seahorses finished 13-2-4 overall and 1-0-2 in region. The Raiders finished 14-3-4 overall and 6-1 in region.

The team spent the entire regular season sitting at the top of its division polls, ranked at No. 1. Other schools in VISAA Division II are The Steward School, North Cross School, Blue Ridge School, Hampton Roads Academy, Seton School, Norfolk Collegiate, Highland School, Trinity Christian School, The Covenant School, Fredericksburg Christian School, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, Randolph-Macon Academy and Virginia Episcopal School.

Middlesex County-area students on the soccer team include:

  • Goalie Jackson Pyles, Class of 2024, son of Donny and Kim Pyles of Christchurch.
  • Owen Smiley, Class of 2025, son of Will Smiley of Irvington and Mollie Brumfield of Urbanna.
