Coach Garrett Gregory’s Middlesex High School (MHS) boys cross country team finished ninth as a team in the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class I state cross country meet on Saturday, Nov. 12, at Salem, near Roanoke. “Our goal as a team was to send the maximum number of runners to states this year,” Coach Gregory said. “We accomplished this goal with fantastic performances from all seven of our boys at the regional meet. We were excited to represent our school and community at the state meet alongside Mathews and Lancaster from our region.”

Vicente Reyes was the top Charger runner. Reyes finished 28th overall and was clocked at 18:51.92 over the 5K course. Gunner Marston was the second MHS runner finishing 42nd with a 19:21.89 clocking.

The Charger boys team qualified for the state meet as a team because it finished third as a team at the Region A championship meet in Newport News on Thursday, Nov. 3.
