Middlesex County seeks tourism grant

by Larry Chowning –

The Middlesex County Economic Development Authority (EDA) is applying for a $120,000 tourism grant through American Rescue Plan Funds (COVID-19 funding).

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) approved the application at its Oct. 4 regular monthly meeting on a proposal developed by EDA consultant Whitney Law of THINKBIG! Marketing. The proposal was unanimously approved by the board.

The overall objective of the grant proposal is to “bring awareness to Middlesex County as a destination for travelers in new target markets by showcasing current products and newly created products.”

The proposal calls for the development of a Middlesex County Blueway Trail. It will be directed to the 30 to 65-plus age group; to individuals, groups and families who enjoy the water; recreational boating, paddling and kayaking; and people interested in multi-day trips/stays through guided experiences. The marketing will be directed towards Northern Virginia, Hampton Roads/Norfolk, Richmond and people currently traveling on the Chesapeake Bay…
