The Middlesex High School golf team tied with George Wythe High School for second place in the Virginia Class 1 state championship on Oct. 11, at Olde Mill Golf Resort in Laurel Fork near Wytheville. Galax was champion with a plus 34 strokes total of 322, while second place Middlesex and Wythe finished with plus 60 strokes for a 348 total.

“The team really worked exceptionally hard this season,” said Charger Head Coach David Lutz. “We had a few days that were far from perfect conditions for golf and our guys were out there working on the range and doing drill work.

“We have seen some tremendous improvement throughout the entire team since the season started and the guys will only continue to get better,” Lutz added. “After the state tournament they all seemed like they were hungry for more…”
