Jason Soucek Classic Game set for Friday at CCS

On Friday, Oct. 21, Christchurch School (CCS) will host the Jason Soucek Classic Game in memory and honor of CCS graduate and Middlesex County resident Jason “Juice” Soucek, CCS Class of 1992. Jason was the son of Archie (CCS 1961) and Claudia Soucek of Saluda. Jason Soucek died in 1996, while a student at Roanoke College. At Christchurch, Jason was a standout soccer, basketball and lacrosse player, earning Best All-Around Athlete honors in 1992.

The Seahorses will play Grace Christian School of Mechanicsville at 4:30 p.m. on Nunn Field. The team is coached by Matt Schaefer, who is in his 20th year at Christchurch and teaches in the math department. He is assisted by Coach Pete Goodrich and Donny Pyles.

The team is ranked #1 in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Division II season rankings poll. Other schools in VISAA Division II include Hampton Roads Academy, Norfolk Collegiate, North Cross School, The Steward School, Blue Ridge School, Highland School, Seton School, Fredericksburg Christian, The Covenant School, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, Trinity Christian, Peninsula Catholic, Norfolk Christian, Virginia Episcopal School, Atlantic Shores Christian and Hargrave Military.

Captains for the 2022 season are legacy John Ball, son of Lewis (CCS 1995) and Becky Ball of Bruington, and Ignacio Rodriguez de Torres, son of Raquel De Torres Alvarez and Pedro Rodriguez Sanchez of Madrid, Spain.

Come on out to watch some great soccer action on beautiful Nunn Field, overlooking the Rappahannock River. The game is free and open to the public.
