Urbanna library to present “Ukraine: In Person”

by Michael Kunzinger –

The Middlesex County Public Library (MCPL) system is pleased to host a presentation by Olena Boyko, “Ukraine: In Person” recounting her experiences visiting war-torn Ukraine. The talk is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the library’s Urbanna branch, with Q&A time and light refreshments to follow.

Boyko’s presentation will address the current state of the conflict on the ground, along with stories of her own recent visit to Kyiv and Lviv (the capitol and her hometown, respectively).

Olena Boyko is a resident of Urbanna of over 40 years and a familiar face around Middlesex. She was born in Lviv, in western Ukraine but fled as an infant with her family ahead of the Soviet occupation. She never forgot her home country, and in the ensuing years founded the Tidewater Ukrainian Cultural Association, and sponsored a library in her ancestral village.

The talk is a unique opportunity to hear about the conflict from someone who has experienced it personally.
