Lower United Methodist Church (LUMC) will host a fall gathering for students in grades six through 12 to attend a free Celebrate Light Middlesex Youth Group event. The gathering is set for 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at 120 Lower Church Road in Hartfield.
Students will register in the fellowship hall upon arrival stated Rogers. They will not be allowed to leave until their parents or guardians pick them up. If students drive and leave before the event ends at 8 p.m., they may not re-enter.

Clarksbury United Methodist Church in Hardyville will offer a drive-through food pantry on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 9-11 a.m. Food recipients are asked to follow the parking cones as they turn into the church parking lot. You will need to bring a card with your name, address, number of people in the household, and telephone number on it. You will be asked to remain in your car during the check-in and loading process. You will exit by following the parking cones around the rear of the church. The church is at 15924 General Puller Highway (Route 33).

Would you like to Trick or Treat on Halloween? Would you like to have hot chocolate and homemade cookies? Zion Branch Baptist Church in Saluda invites you to the pastoral installation of Bishop Dr. Carlton B. Johnson on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 3 p.m. This service will be offered at Lebanon Baptist Church, 11821 Tidewater Trail, Saluda. Dinner will be served. The Rev. Kevin Paige from Mount Nebo Church in Barhamsville will deliver the installation message.

Zion Hill Baptist Church, 10256 Indian Road, Gloucester, will have in-person worship service on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. Pastor Eugene Comithier II will preach and the Inspirational Voices will sing. They will celebrate the church’s annual Women’s Day during the morning service. Everyone attending the service should wear something pink in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Can you say, “Pumpkin”? Yes, it’s that time. Trunk or Treat at Zoar Baptist Church is set for 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. The parking lot at Zoar Baptist Church will be full of open trunks and open hearts. Members of the congregation want to offer goodies, games and friendship at the Trunk or Treat event planned and prepared for the children of Middlesex County.

“One Community Under God” has rebloomed as 10 community churches come together to host a praise, music and worship service. This year’s event is planned for 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department’s station at 335 Virginia St. in Urbanna. A light lunch will be served afterwards. All are invited to come, join this special time of worship and fellowship together. Dress is casual.
The county churches that are hosting this year’s One Community Under God include Antioch Baptist, Calvary Baptist, Christ Church Parish, First Baptist Amburg, Grafton Baptist, Mount Zion Baptist, Pure Life Church, Remlik Wesleyan, Urbanna Baptist and Urbanna United Methodist. Glebe Landing Baptist Church will celebrate its 250th anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 16.
Glebe Landing, the second oldest church in the Tidewater Association (formerly the old Rappahannock), was constituted on Oct. 17, 1772, by noted Baptist preacher John Waller.
Deciding what to do on Saturday, Oct. 15, has just gotten easier. Urbanna United Methodist Church is hosting a fall bazaar. There will be “yummy” things to buy and decorative accents for your home to purchase. Starting at 9 a.m., the church will be welcoming eager buyers to get a head-start on their holiday shopping or purchase some items for themselves.
In addition, members of the church have been working on various craft items for both the Fall and Christmas seasons. Breads, chocolates, baked goods and dips will be available for sale. The men of the church are making a super delicious chili that will be sold by the quart. Remember to mark your calendars for Oct. 15 and come to Urbanna United Methodist Church for a wonderful fall bazaar.

The Rev. Nita May of Dunnsville will become the new pastor of Saluda Baptist Church on Sunday, Oct. 16. She has served as pastor of Boulevard Baptist Church, Richmond, Associate Mission Innovation/Women’s Involvement for Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) of Virginia, director of Central Virginia Baptist Ministries and an active member of the Essex County Ministries Association. She started and led the Rappahannock River Church ministry for 15 years and served as interim pastor of Beale Memorial Baptist Church in Tappahannock in 2020.
