Pair from Middlesex on top ranked VISAA team

The Christchurch School varsity boys soccer team is off to a dominating start this fall. The team appeared at No. 1 in the first Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Division II season rankings poll released on Sept. 21. Other schools in VISAA Division II include Hampton Roads Academy, Norfolk Collegiate, North Cross School, The Steward School, Blue Ridge School, Highland School, Seton School, Fredericksburg Christian, The Covenant School, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, Trinity Christian, Peninsula Catholic, Norfolk Christian, Virginia Episcopal School, Atlantic Shores Christian and Hargrave Military.

The team has amassed an impressive 6-3-0 record, with two of three ties coming against Division I teams Benedictine College Prep and St. Christopher’s School, both of Richmond.
The team is coached by Matthew Schaefer, in his 20th year at the helm, along with assistant coaches Donny Pyles and Peter Goodrich.

Seahorse squad captains are John Ball, son of Lewis and Becky Ball of Bruington; and Ignacio Rodriguez de Torres, son of Raquel de Torres Alvarez and Pedro Rodriguez Sanchez of Madrid, Spain.
