Middlesex High School’s (MHS) annual homecoming parade is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 in Saluda, MHS Principal Susan Fleet told the Sentinel this week. (The line-up starts at 4:45 p.m.)
The parade will start at the Middlesex County Historic Courthouse and proceed two miles northwest on General Puller Highway (U.S. 17 Business Route) to the MHS bus loop. Scores are expected to line the route to watch multiple entries carrying 2022-2023 homecoming royalty and representing various school groups. Some members of the MHS Marching Band are also expected. Charger fans are encouraged to come out, watch the parade and cheer on the football team, which will also be riding in the parade.
During the parade, from approximately 5:30 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, General Puller Highway from Gloucester Road to the MHS (454 General Puller Highway) will be closed to regular vehicle traffic, which will be detoured around the closed section.
Football game
Gates open at 6 p.m. at Bristow/Boxley Field in Saluda for the homecoming football game, which will feature Middlesex (2-3, 0-0) versus the West Point Pointers (3-2,0-0). The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. The homecoming queen and king will be crowned at halftime, following the presentation of the homecoming court. Students vote on who is elected as queen and king and the winners’ identities is kept secret until the crowning.

The 2022-2023 Middlesex High School Homecoming Court appears below. The names are listed in alphabetical order by grade, from seniors to ninth graders.
The senior queen candidates include, Nai’ja Cooke, Zanayzia Major, Alyssa Mitchem and Kelsey Morris.
The senior king candidates include, Cameron Bunns, Lane Glasco, Kolby Moore and Owen Wynberry.
The 11th grade court court includes Triniti Muse and Hailey Norris.
The 10th grade court includes Meeha Ferris and Elena Fomin.
The ninth grade court includes Tionna Blanding and Kaitlyn Hargrove.
