Deltaville’s Grayson Johnson earns UVa Chemistry doctorate

Dr. Grayson Johnson, a Middlesex County native, graduated from the University of Virginia (UVa) in Charlottesville on May 21 after completing his Chemistry Ph.D. with a concentration in Physical Chemistry in November 2021. The title of Dr. Johnson’s graduate thesis was “Chemistry of the Nanomaterial Interface: Controlling Nanoparticle Morphology, Self-assembly and Catalysis.”

Dr. Johnson is the son of Frank and Elizabeth Johnson of Deltaville. He attributes much of his early interest in chemistry and scientific research to his education and experiences at the Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School for Marine and Environmental Science, and he is a past president (2017-2021) of the Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School Education Foundation.

Presently, Dr. Johnson is working in a two-year post-doctoral position for the Chemical Engineering department at UVa with a focus on optoelectronic materials…
