Constitution Day

For many, September brings to mind Constitution Day, which is nearly here. It is celebrated every year on Sept. 17. This year it falls on Saturday. This is the day Americans honor the brilliant document created by the Founding Fathers. They especially honor James Madison, the Father of the Constitution, who was a Virginian, who made his home at Montpelier in Orange County.

To celebrate this day, Mary Ball Washington Chapter of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge asks all Middlesex County churches to ring their bells for two minutes at 4 p.m. on Saturday to proclaim the precious gift of freedom, which the Constitution ensures.

Constitution Week, which begins on Sept. 17 and ends on Sept. 23, is a good time to learn more about the country’s history by visiting the Deltaville or Urbanna library. It is the responsibility of every citizen to be informed.
