Route 3 travelers crossing the Rappahannock River between Middlesex and Lancaster counties can expect daytime delays at the Robert O. Norris Bridge for around six weeks, starting Monday, Sept. 12, to allow crews to perform a routine, scheduled bridge inspection and maintenance activities.
Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on the Norris Bridge on weekdays, between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. No work is scheduled for Saturdays or Sundays.
During Monday-Thursday, Sept. 12-15, crews will be checking equipment attached to the bridge that gathers general data on vehicle weights.
On Monday-Wednesday, Sept. 19-Oct. 21, an inspection of the entire bridge will be under way. This inspection is required to occur once every two years.
Automated flagging devices will direct one-way, alternating traffic through the work zone when the inspection or maintenance work is under way.
Work has been scheduled to occur weather permitting. Real-time updates on this work zone and Route 3 lane closures will be available on 511Virginia.
