Mary Esther Carter Jackson, 80, of Gloucester, passed away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital after a short illness.
She was born on Dec. 13, 1941 to Albert and Mary Everlene Stokes Carter in Middlesex County. She attended Shiloh Elementary School and graduated from St. Clare Walker High School in 1962.
She retired from BASF in 1992 and worked at Adner Mary and Dutton Grocery until she was 80. She always gave the best hugs, loved and cared for her family, friends, customers and their kids that came in contact with her.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, Melvin Samuel Jackson; her sons, Wayne Melvin Jackson and Baby Boy Jackson; her siblings, James Edward Carter, Baby Boy, Dorothy Lee Carter, William Carter, Walter Elmore and Shirley Ann Carter Clark.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Sherry A. Jackson; two nieces, Cleo Morris and Annette Carter; one nephew, Ray Von Everette Jr.; special daughter, Renee Humphrey; close friend Carl Lemon; dear friend, Addie Slaymaker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Though you will be missed greatly, we know that you’re happily reunited with your family in heaven.
The family will receive friends at J.K. Redmond Funeral Home, Shacklefords, on Friday, Sept. 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. The funeral service is planned for noon Saturday, Sept. 10, at New Mount Zion Baptist Church, Woods Cross Roads. Viewing is one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
