Church Briefs: September 1, 2022

The congregation of Zion Branch Baptist Church, 224 Zion Branch Road, Saluda, will be traveling to Chatham Sunday, Sept. 25, to visit Lifeline Gospel Church for its homecoming service. Dinner will be served.

The bus will depart from Zion Branch at 7 a.m. and return at 5 p.m.

The price for a round-trip bus ticket to Pittsylvania County is $40 and the deadline to pay for your ticket is Sunday, Sept. 11.

The string quartet from “Strings and Things” will be in concert at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9 at Urbanna Baptist Church. This is another free concert in the ongoing series sponsored by the Richardson Trust. All are welcome.

Zion Hill Baptist Church, Gloucester, will have in-person worship service at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21. Pastor Eugene Comithier II will preach and the Inspirational Voices will sing. They will celebrate their 69th annual homecoming and 149th church anniversary during the service.

You may come dressed down. Contact tracing, temperature checks and face masking are all required.

Zion Branch Baptist Church’s annual homecoming and revival services include:

  • 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1 — Pastor Johnny Wallace from Zion Baptist Church-Mathews will visit. The Zion Branch Baptist Church (host church) choir will sing.
  • 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2 — Pastor Kevin Paige and his choir from Mount Nebo Baptist Church in Barhamsville visit.

Urbanna United Methodist Church (UUMC) at 221 Marston Ave. (at Cross Street) now has outdoor Sunday worship beginning at 10:30 a.m.

“We will meet in the church prayer garden or under the large shade tree, depending on the heat,” the Rev. Bruce Johnson, UUMC pastor, told the Sentinel. “In the event of rain we will move back indoors. All are welcome to join us.”
