Pianist Benjamin Garner is returning to Lower United Methodist Church for a concert and hymn sing along this coming Sunday, Aug. 28, at 4 p.m. Come, enjoy the music, and sing old and new favorites — you get to choose! Lower United Methodist Church is at 120 Lower Church Road in Hartfield.

“The Blind Side” is the next Movie Night offering by Saluda Baptist Church. It features the story of Michael Oher, a homeless, traumatized boy, who becomes an All American Football player and First Round Draft pick of the National Football League with the help of a caring lady and her family.

Movie Night is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Saluda Baptist at 960 General Puller Highway in Saluda. Families are encouraged to attend the free showing and enjoy the free pizza, popcorn and drinks that are available.

The string quartet from “Strings and Things” will be in concert at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9 at Urbanna Baptist Church. This is another free concert in the ongoing series sponsored by the Richardson Trust. All are welcome.

A group from Zion Branch Baptist Church, 224 Zion Branch Road, Saluda, will be traveling to Chatham on Sunday, Sept. 25, to Lifeline Gospel Church for its homecoming service, where dinner will be served.

The bus will depart from Zion Branch at 7 a.m. and return at 5 p.m.
Price for bus ticket is $40.

The deadline to pay is Sunday, Sept. 11.

Weekly community worship is offered at Bethpage Camp-Resort each Sunday in the Bethpage amphitheater. All are welcome to the 9 a.m. service, which is non-denominational. In case of rain, the service will be presented at The Rally Center.

Zion Branch Baptist Church’s annual homecoming and revival services include:

  • 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 — Bishop Dr. Carlton B. Johnson, pastor, who will preach the morning message.
  • 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 — Apostle Russell Smith of Macedonia Baptist Church, Center Cross, and his congregation visit. Immediately after the service, dinner will be served.
  • 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30 — Pastor Stevens Burrell and his choir from Gleaning Baptist Church in Gloucester visit.
  • 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31 — Pastor Rudolph Polson and his choir from Union Hope Baptist Church in King William visit.
  • 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1 — Pastor Johnny Wallace from Zion Baptist Church-Mathews will visit. The Zion Branch Baptist Church (host church) choir will sing.
  • 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2 — Pastor Kevin Paige and his choir from Mount Nebo Baptist Church in Barhamsville visit.

Urbanna United Methodist Church (UUMC) at 221 Marston Ave. (at Cross Street) now has outdoor Sunday worship beginning at 10:30 a.m.

“We will meet in the church prayer garden or under the large shade tree, depending on the heat,” the Rev. Bruce Johnson, UUMC pastor, told the Sentinel. “In the event of rain we will move back indoors. All are welcome to join us.”
