Va. sales tax holiday slated for Aug. 5-7; good time to shop for school supplies

Virginia’s three-day sales tax holiday starts Friday, Aug. 5 at 12:01 a.m. and ends the following Sunday, Aug. 7 at 11:59 pm., according to the Virginia Department of Taxation.

During the sales tax holiday, you can buy qualifying school supplies, clothing, footwear, hurricane and emergency preparedness items, and Energy Star and WaterSense products without paying sales tax.

“School supply,” means an item that is commonly used by a student in a course of study. For purposes of the sales tax holiday, the term does not include computers.

Check out page B7 in this week’s e-edition for a full list of eligible items.
