The Town of Urbanna’s annual Founders Day celebration is set for this Saturday, Aug. 6. Costumed, colonial-style fife and drum musicians and the “town crier’s” proclamation reading will open the day’s activities at 51 Cross St., the Taylor building, at 10:15 a.m. The fife/drum unit will march from the Taylor building through Urbanna to Urbanna Baptist Church at 121 Watling St., playing colonial tunes along the way while the costumed crier (Urbanna Town Administrator Garth Wheeler) follows them.
Deltaville Maritime Museum’s replica of John Smith’s 1600s Chesapeake Bay shallop vessel, The Explorer, will be on display on the Urbanna Town Green at 241 Virginia St. Also on the Town Green through the day will be snow cones, presentations by Town Historian Larry Chowning and other celebration offerings.
The Urbanna Town Museum and Visitors Center at 130 Virginia St. will be open 11a.m.-3 p.m. with colonial games being played in its “backyard.”
Founders Day rain-or-shine events at Urbanna Town Green and Urbanna Town Museum are all free.
