Sam Nussman, Mac McMurtrie will serve as assistant coaches of Middlesex football team

The Middlesex High School (MHS) football team has a new coaching staff this season as the Chargers will be coached by Head Coach Mark Bowen and assistant coaches Sam Nussman and Mac McMurtrie.
Bowen and Nussman were both assistant coaches at Chesterfield’s L.C. Bird High School and coached under three time state gridiron champion, L.C. Bird Coach David Bedwell.
McMurtrie was a star MHS football and baseball athlete in the 1990s and a graduate of Middlesex High School. He was the assistant baseball coach for the Chargers in the spring.
“I’m hoping to bring a winning attitude back to Middlesex,” said Bowen on the first official day of football tryouts on Thursday, July 28, at the Louise Gray Football Practice Field at MHS. “I know you had a state championship team here under Coach Bill Garbett some years ago and we’d like to see that type of winning atmosphere come back.”
Bowen is a police chief at Defense Supply Center in Richmond. He’s been in law enforcement for approximately 35 years including 11 years as a military police officer…
