Sixteen young campers from across Middlesex and Gloucester counties participated in Christ Church Parish’s second annual Fine Arts Camp the week of July 18. During the camp, these young people had the experience of learning the techniques and skills of art, music and theater as well as community service, church history and liturgy.
Provided at no charge to the campers, due to financial support from the Tan Sanders fund, campers were provided breakfast and lunch each day and limited-edition T-shirts and backpacks. They also had the opportunity to give back to others less fortunate by creating and decorating large baskets of food during the Wednesday Christmas in July event.
On Saturday, July 23, the campers showcased their very notable accomplishments with an art show, theatrical presentation and mini-concert to the delight of their families, church members and the community. They earned very enthusiastic applause from a large audience.
Finally, as a culmination of the camp experience, campers participated in significant support to the 10:30 a.m. service at Christ Church. They sang, read scripture, and served as acolytes, crucifers, and ushers. In every case they served with reverence and joy. A church spokesperson said that the church looks forward to returning and new campers for this special Fine Arts camp next summer.
