The Pastors Aide committee of Make-A-Way and Deliverance Full Gospel Baptist Church at 100 Flats Road in Urbanna will host a special dinner 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. Organizers ask that you pre-order your dinner — the cut-off date for pre-orders is set for Aug. 5; walk-ins are also welcome.

During August, after three and a half years of absence, the Very Rev. Gerry Kaggwa, pastor of Catholic Church of the Visitation in Topping, will return to Uganda for a well-deserved month’s vacation.

Church of the Visitation’s guest priest during Father Gerry’s absence will be the Rev. Christopher Isinta, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Newark, who will reside in the Church of the Visitation rectory while serving the parish.

His availability will allow the church to celebrate “daily” Mass during August on a normal schedule. The church offers “daily” Mass at 9 a.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Escobrook Baptist Church at 2430 Elsom Mascot Road in Shacklefords (in King and Queen County) will celebrate homecoming 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 7. The Rev. Arthur K. Roane will bring the Preached Word. There will not be an afternoon service.

The public is invited, but all attendees should wear face coverings.

Everyone in Middlesex County is invited to visit Saluda Baptist Church for its 6:30 p.m. July 29 monthly Friday Movie Night event.

There will be a free showing of the movie, “I am Potential,” which is based on the inspiring true story of Patrick Henry Hughes.

The church is also giving out free pizza, popcorn and drinks on Movie Night and encourages you to attend with your whole family.

Center Cross Church of God’s (CCCOG), ages 3-11, 2022 vacation Bible school (VBS) is set for 5:30-8:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, Aug. 1-5. This event is free and is open to the community. Participants will let their imaginations and ingenuity run wild as they explore the creativity of God and His image bearers.

Children will learn how they were created in Christ and designed for God’s purpose, they will sample different forms of creative expression – from painting and sculpting to robotics and inventing – as they explore ways they can use their own talents to bring God glory.

Are you ready for summer to end and school to start? Harmony Grove Baptist Church and the Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department (HVFD) want to help the children in the community to get there. On Saturday, Aug. 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Harmony Grove Baptist and HVFD will come together at Harmony Baptist, located at the intersection of General Puller Highway (Route 33) and Grey’s Point Road (Route 3) in Harmony Village, to enjoy the special “Back 2 School Blast” event.

There will be hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks, popcorn, cookies, games for all ages, including water games, and school supplies for children kindergarten through sixth grade, all in one spot and the event is free! Harmony Baptist’s giant teepee will again be erected for the event.

To help women grow in their prayer lives, All Saints Anglican Church in Saluda is hosting the Tapestry Day of Prayer on July 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with Bonnie Shannonhouse, the founder and president of Tapestry Inc. and author of the book, “The Lost Coin: Hours of the Cross.” She was also named by Christianity Today in 1996 as one of the top 100 most influential Christian women in America.

Shannonhouse will teach traditional methods of prayer and how to apply them in the modern world. The seminar is open to all denominations and is free, but an offering plate will be available for donations. Lunch will also be provided in the parish hall.

“Come to the Big Top,” the 2022 community Bible school at Zoar Baptist Church, is coming up. Children are welcome to enroll in “Come to the Big Top,” which will be offered 5:30-8 p.m. Monday-Friday, Aug. 1-5 at Zoar, which is at 17097 General Puller Highway in Deltaville. Dinner will be provided each evening.

Your child, a neighbor’s child, your niece, nephew or grandchild are all welcome to enroll. Lots of energy is going into this year’s study for the children of Deltaville. Children’s lives can be enriched by studying God’s Word. God has a plan for His Word in the life of your child.

“So will My Word be, which goes out of My mouth; it will not return to Me void (useless, without result), without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it,” reads the Bible’s Isaiah 55:11.


Weekly community worship is offered at Bethpage Resort-Camp each Sunday in the Bethpage amphitheater. All are welcome to the 9 a.m. service, which is non-denominational. In case of rain, the service will be presented at The Rally Center.

C.J. Revere, a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church in Harmony Village will speak on Sunday, July 17. The local praise and worship band Jubal will provide the music.

Urbanna United Methodist Church (UUMC) at 221 Marston Ave. (at Cross Street) now has outdoor Sunday worship beginning at 10:30 a.m.

“We will meet in the church prayer garden or under the large shade tree, depending on the heat,” the Rev. Bruce Johnson, UUMC pastor, told the Sentinel. “In the event of rain we will move back indoors. All are welcome to join us.”

Members of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Church of the Rappahannock will offer special drum circles 3-5 p.m. on the third Sunday of each month through October at Kilmarnock Town Centre Park. All are welcome — be sure to bring your percussion instruments. Drums will be provided to share.
