The Middlesex County School Board (MCSB) had Stephen Halsey, vice president of Moseley Architects in Richmond, report Monday at the board’s July regular monthly meeting that “the bones of the Middlesex High School (MHS) buildings are in very good shape.”

Renovation or the building of a new high school facility is a part of the MCSB master plan. MCSB hired Moseley Architects to study the possibility of renovating the high school campus.

Halsey presented three renovation options which speak to a more modern approach to education including “rightsizing” classrooms, installing furniture more conducive to learning and discipline, and making the current auditorium into more of a forum space for lectures and school board meetings.

There was discussion on moving the tennis courts to another location on campus to provide more parking space. There are currently 197 parking spaces at MHS and the relocation of tennis courts would provide 225 spaces, said Halsey.

Moseley Architects is on the agenda for the August regular school board meeting to provide the cost of each of the three options.
