BENDURA WINS DELTAVILLE 5K IN RECORD TIME

The first of several heats lines up on General Puller Highway at the start of the Deltaville 5K Saturday in this drone’s eye view. While many of the nearly 300 race participants hail from Middlesex County and elsewhere in the Old Dominion, one participant, Alban Resnier, 38, came all the way from Rambouillet, France to participate in the race and experience some of Deltaville’s scenic beauty. Jordan Bendura, 20, of Glen Allen won the Deltaville 5K for the second straight year Saturday, setting a race record with his time of 16 minutes, four seconds. He surpassed three-time winner Adam Otstot’s previous record from several years back by 15 seconds. Bendura, competing in a field of nearly 300 runners in the 11th running of the 3.1 mile road race, finished two minutes and 22 seconds ahead of male runner-up Courtney Collins, 15, of Charlottesville.

Lindsay Jones, 29, of Royal Oak, Mich. was the top female finisher with a 19:33 time.

Kristin Roberts, 35, of Alexandria was the female runner-up and had a 20:26 time.

The first Middlesex County male to cross the finish line was Sawyer Laster, 9, of Wake (21:06) and the fastest Middlesex female was Amanda Ward, 38, of Hardyville (23:40).

The Middlesex male runner-up was Chris Rouzie, 50, of Deltaville (21:28) and the

Middlesex female runner-up was Anne Hutchings, 61, of Deltaville (25:13).

The results are the official “chip” times as recorded by Mettle Events’ rep Kevin Hupp.

Crossing the finish line first in the Fun Run that preceded the 5K was Braxton Lee, 12, of Quinton. Times and other winners’ names in the Fun Run were not recorded, according to Race Director Susan Lukens. The race, which starts and finishes in front of the Deltaville Community Association (DCA) building and mostly uses stretches of General Puller Highway and Lovers Lane for its route, is a DCA fundraiser that helps maintain the DCA’s various community facilities.
