Urbanna Oyster Festival Queen contestant Abigail Smiley and her Little Miss Spat co-contestant Lucy Myers will present a fun run on Saturday, July 2, at 11 a.m. The fun run will be hosted at the Middlesex County Sports Complex in Locust Hill. The fee will be $5 to run, jog or walk.
Participants are encouraged to bring donations of used sports equipment in good condition. Soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball/softball and gymnastics equipment, including shoes, cleats, shin guards, balls, helmets, catchers gear and clothing are all welcome.
There will be snacks, drinks, and lots of fun games. There is going to be a raffle for everyone and prizes for the winner of the fun run.
The fundraising is for Middlesex County families who can’t afford to pay the fees necessary for the sport that they are interested in.
Abigail and Lucy are teaming up with programs in the county like Little League for baseball and softball, the Middlesex Parks and Recreation Department and the Middlesex Gymnastics Center to create scholarship opportunities for kids. All of the equipment collected at the event will be donated to the programs to be distributed to children in need.
It is important for all children to have the opportunity to play and participate in local sports and activities. Sports bring the community together and create great opportunities for the youngsters playing them.
Abigail and Lucy thank everyone who has donated to this cause already. Come out on Saturday, July 2, at 11 a.m. and be ready to have fun!
