Vivian H. Callis III

Vivian H. Callis III, better known to all as Jack, died on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 surrounded by his family and friends, after a long battle with esophageal cancer. Jack was a wonderful man whose true passion was giving to and helping others. He dedicated his life to service organizations like the Jaycees, Boy Scouts, Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department and the Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad, serving in various leadership roles. He was a deacon in Reedswood Christian Church.

Jack loved boating and fishing, and with the help of a few friends even caught three fish from his hospital bed on his birthday. He enjoyed helping to coach the Middlesex High School Chargers football team for three years.

A true “jack of all trades,” Jack enjoyed cooking for his family and friends, and they loved it! He was always willing to help anyone who needed it. Known for his amazing hugs, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jack is survived by his wife, Cynthia Foor Callis; his daughters, Sara Williams (Brandon), Meaghan Koehler (Derek); and son, William Callis. His three grandchildren, Hannah, Madalynn and Clayton, were the apple of his eye. He is also survived by his sister, Faith Callis Blake (Alan); and seven nieces and nephews, whom he adored.

A visitation is planned for 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, June 24 at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda. A celebration of life service  is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25 at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Gloucester.

In memory of Jack, contributions may be made in his name to Reedswood Christian Church or the American Cancer Society.
