Theodore “Teddy” R. Braxton, 82, was born Aug. 23, 1939 in Middlesex County. He departed this life on Monday, June 6, 2022 in Deer Park, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Willis and Odessa Braxton Sr. of Urbanna.
Teddy attended the public schools in Middlesex County. After St. Clare Walker High School, he migrated to New Rochelle, N.Y., and finally settled in Deer Park, N.Y., with his family, including his wife, Helen “Chickie,” the love of his life.
Survivors also include, daughters, Rhonda Braxton (Chris) Brown of New York, N.Y., Monica Braxton (Johnny) Smith of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.; granddaughters, Kendall Brown, Bre Smith; grandsons, Hudson Brown, TiErry Smith; brother, Willis Braxton Jr., (Joyce), Urbanna, VA; sisters, Gertrude Whiting of Columbia, S.C., Lilly Beatrice Braxton of North Chesterfield, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving friends.
Theodore never forgot Middlesex and would always return to his roots. Once he retired from Empire Merchants, he would visit often. In September 2019 Teddy was recognized in Urbanna along with the Holmes Brothers for his musical prose in the Sevilles band that was formed during his tenure at St. Clare Walker High School and beyond.
A visitation for Theodore is planned for 9:30-11:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, at Claude R. Boyd-Spencer Funeral Home, Babylon, N.Y. Following the visitation will be an entombment at noon at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, N.Y.
