Revamped Tom Carter gym site of summer youth camps

The Middlesex County Parks and Recreation Department will offer several youth day camps this summer, including its Captains Youth Basketball Camp, Kids Summer Camp, Volleyball Camp and Cheerleading Camp.

Captains Youth Basketball Camp will be for ages 6 to 17 and will be offered in the newly air-conditioned and revamped Tom Carter Memorial Gym at Cooks Corner. Pre-registration is required. The camp is set for June 11 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.; June 22 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.; June 25 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.; June 27 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.; and June 29 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

Kids Summer Camp will run from July 5-8 and will cost $125, which includes a drawstring bag. The summer camp will be offered at Middlesex High School (MHS). For information on the basketball camp or summer camp contact either Karen Reed at 804-758-0057 or Roland Ross at 757-952-4430.

Volleyball Camp will be offered from June 13-17 from 9-11 a.m. and will cost $45. The camp is for girls from grades five through nine and will be offered at MHS. Girls will receive a camp T-shirt. Girls will be taught the basic skills of volleyball to better help prepare them for volleyball teams in the future. Previous players and coaches will be teaching the girls the basics of passing, setting, hitting and serving. For information, contact Reed at 804-758-0057 or Mariah Robinson at 804-384-3699.

Cheerleading Camp will be offered from June 27-30 from 4-6 p.m. in the Tom Carter Memorial Gym and will cost $60 per child. Registration will be now until June 20.

Girls will learn basics of cheerleading and routines by cheer coach duo Amber Daughtry and Katie Coberly. Students are to bring navy shorts, a plain white shirt and tennis shoes/cheer shoes. For information, contact Amber at 804-370-1046 or email Amber1234d@icloud.com.

Tom Carter Memorial Gym is on the campus of the Cooks Corner Office Complex at 2911 General Puller Highway (Route 33).
