Effie Elizabeth Weston Ward

Effie Elizabeth Weston Ward was gathered into the arms of her Jesus on Saturday, June 4, 2022. She passed away quietly at Heron Cove in Gloucester, while receiving medical care for her long journey with dementia.

Effie Elizabeth Weston Ward was born on March 4, 1932 to her parents Johnny and Molly Weston in Deltaville. She would be the fourth child of a family that eventually gave her six siblings. It is from this family of nine that Effie’s loving, caring and humorous nature flourished for 90 years.

She had been a member of Clarksbury United Methodist Church and White Stone United Methodist Church. During her membership and fellowship with the Methodist Church, she was active in Bible study and found her love for the scriptures. She had returned to her childhood church, Philippi Christian Church, where she raised her children.

Effie also flourished with creativity as a homemaker. She had developed and inherited talents for cooking from her mother and sisters. From cooking mom’s love for interior design was born and she became a natural!

Welcoming Effie into the arms of Jesus were her husband, Mit; her parents, Johnny and Molly Weston; siblings Herman Weston, Laura French, Julie Haynes; and daughter-in-law, Shirley Ward.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories and to continue traditions, son, Stephen W. Ward and husband, Robert M. Lucas; son, Randy A. Ward and wife Margaret B. Ward; and son, Mark W. Ward and wife Rosalie D. Ward.

Effie was the proud grandmother of Adam R. Lucas, Terrell Ward-Callahan, Zackery D. Ward, Sara M. Ward and husband Brock L. Parrish Sr., Parker A. Ward and wife Sarah R. Ward; and great-grandmother of Patricia J. Parrish, Brock L. Parrish, Riley C. Parrish, Grace L. Parrish, Luke A. Parrish, and Arabella J. Perez. In addition, her family will continue to cherish her memories through her sisters, Barbara Sibley, Shirley Dunlevy, and Annette Laird. Effie was also the aunt of many nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own.

A celebration of life is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9 at Philippi Christian Church in Deltaville. Her interment will follow the service at Philippi Memorial Gardens, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Following the interment, a celebration of life luncheon will be conducted at the fellowship hall of Philippi Christian Church. The family will meet with family and friends at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel in Saluda, on Wednesday, June 8 from 6-8 pm.

Memorial gifts may be made to honor Effie’s life to the Alzheimer’s Association at “alz.org.”
