Kidd, Ivery pace MHS track teams

The Middlesex High School (MHS) boys track team finished fourth in the Tidewater District track and field championships at Charles City High School Thursday, May 19, as West Point ran away with the meet, scoring 197 points.

Mathews High School was second as a team with 90 points; King William, third, 85 points; MHS, fourth, 84 points; Carver Academy, fifth, 30 points; King and Queen Central, sixth, 20 points; and Charles City, seventh, 2 points.

The Chargers were paced by Jayden Kidd who won the high jump (5’6”), the 100-meter dash (11.54) and second in the 200-meter dash (24.40). Kidd was high scorer for the Chargers with 28 points and his times in the 100 and 200 meters met Region A standards to run in the Region A meet thursday at Charles City.

The Lady Chargers finished sixth in the Tidewater District championship meet with 30 points. West Point won the meet with 109 points; Mathews, second, 88 points; Charles City, third, 76 points; King and Queen Central, fourth, 75 points; King William, fifth, 47 points; Middlesex, sixth, 30 points; and Carver Academy, seventh, 7 points.

The Lady Chargers were paced by Dominae Ivery, who finished second in the high jump (4’6”), third, long jump (13’10”) and fourth, 200 meter dash (31.15). Ivery’s high jump height met the Virginia 1A state standards for her to participate in the state meet.

The girls and boys will participate in the Region A championship meet today, Thursday, May 26, at Charles City High School. The meet starts at 2:30 p.m.
