Allen “Dale” Freeman of Jamaica, 72, was sent to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, May 16, 2022, joining his parents, stepmother and four brothers, all from Chesapeake.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Diane; son, Allen Dale Freeman II (Shannon) of Richmond; three grandchildren, Jenna, Kailey, and Will; half-sister, Janice Cline of Greer S.C.; and two nieces, Krystal Cheatham (Barron) of Virginia Beach and Chrystal Krutzkamp (Ben) of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Dale and Diane were high school sweethearts and graduated from Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake in 1969. After many years in Great Bridge they moved to Hertford, N.C. on the Albermarle Sound where they enjoyed boating, bass fishing and hunting. He helped to build Holiday Island Yacht Club and was commodore for many years.
In 2004 he retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth as a GS11 engineering technician (code 246) on submarines. After retiring, he moved to Jamaica, where he enjoyed hunting and gardening. He was president of J.W. Lilly Hunt Club, a deacon at Glebe Landing Baptist Church, a member of Urbanna Masonic Lodge #83 A.F & A.M., and Tappahannock Lions Club.
A funeral service is planned for 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 23 at Glebe Landing Baptist Church, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at 4 p.m. in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, 524 Cedar Road, Chesapeake.
