
Baseball team beats Mathews 6-1, earns trip to region playoff

Between rain showers Friday, the Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity baseball team captured the regular season Tidewater District crown by defeating rival Mathews Blue Devils, 6-1, at MHS in Saluda.
The Charger offense put together a five-run second inning and Middlesex’s defense along with pitcher Patrick Larson took care of business giving MHS its eighth district win of the season. The Chargers are 9-1 in district play and 10-6 overall in the win-loss column.
“We are certainly excited about this win,” said MHS Head Coach John Matthew Robins. “We had that one good inning offensively and played good defense throughout the game.
The Chargers have clinched a spot in the Region A baseball playoffs. MHS Athletic Director Matt Stamm said that the times and locations will soon be announced…
