Mary Josephine Morgan Robins

Mary Josephine Morgan Robins, 103, of Mathews, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 surrounded by her family.

Mary Jo was born Oct. 31, 1918 to Wilford Butts Morgan and Clara Littleton Clayvelle Morgan in Diggs. She grew up enjoying the “Haven” and the Chesapeake Bay with her brothers Paul (Rose), Clyde (Patty), and Forrest (Ducky). Mary Jo graduated from Lee Jackson High School and Radford State Teachers College.

In 1942 she met and married John Arthur Robins Sr. They often opened their home to entertain family and friends, usually with delicious meals and the retelling of family “stories.”

Mary Jo taught in the public schools of Mathews County for 27 years.

Mary Jo was a lifelong member of Salem Church at Diggs where she remained active well into her 90s.

She loved family, her church, and the Chesapeake Bay. To her there was no place better or more beautiful than Mathews County and in particular “down the Haven.”

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers.

She is survived by her son, John Arthur Robins Jr. (Sandra); daughter, Rebecca Robins Livermon (Garry); grandchildren, Susan Bray (Heath), Amy Shaw (Stevie), Rachel Wood (Daniel), Brad Livermon (Courtney), Adam Livermon (Tiani); great-grandchildren, Healy Mantis (Niko), Emma Wood, Olivia Wood, Mason Macalka, Clara Wood, Lauren Macalka, John Stephen Shaw, Rivkah Livermon, Korynn Livermon, Gretta Livermon, Malachi Livermon, Willow Livermon, and Noah Livermon; and a great-great grandson, Dimi Mantis.

“(You) have fought the good fight, (you) have finished (your) race, (you) have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 “Well done good and faithful servant!” Matthew 25:23.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 14 from 9:30-11 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, Diggs. A celebration of life service will be conducted in the church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Milford Cemetery, Moon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salem UMC Building Fund (c/o Jim Drummond, 84 Callis Field Lane, Mathews, VA 23109). Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, assisted the family.
