Urbanna Beautification Inc. (UBI) addressed the Urbanna Town Council at its April 28 meeting with a proposal to build a pavilion in Taber Park to be dedicated to the late Charles and Betsy Bristow.
UBI has $15,000 in its treasury, according to a document in the council’s meeting packet. UBI member Nancy Greenwood asked council to consider setting aside land in the park for a 30-foot by 40-foot pavilion that would be on ground level.
Some council members responded that the Town of Urbanna is facing major expenses and is strapped for cash.
Urbanna Town Council Finance Committee Chairman Bill Goldsmith said the town residents have indicated they want a new community swimming pool and the town is looking for ways to finance the $800,000 pool and possibly getting a grant. “We don’t have the cash flow to pay for a pool,” Goldsmith said. (The current town pool was closed permanently two years ago due to safety concerns.)
