The Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger varsity baseball team is 8-5 overall in the win-loss column and 7-1 in Tidewater District play. The Chargers will vie for the Tidewater District championship against Mathews at Saluda on Friday, May 13. The championship game starts at 6:30 p.m.

The Chargers won a double-header this week against the Charles City Panthers. MHS won the first game 17-0 and was paced by Chris Withers, who was the winning pitcher.

“Chris pitched a great game,” said MHS Head Coach John Matthew Robins. “He did an exceptionally good job having come back from an injury last week to pitch his first game.”

The Chargers also beat the Panthers in the second game of the double-header as Garrison Robins took to the mound and pitched a 14-0 shutout.

Middlesex’s only Tidewater District defeat came at the hands of King William on Thursday, May 5. The Cavaliers defeated MHS 4-3. “We played a very good game offensively and defensively,” said Robins. “We just came up a little short on the scoreboard.”

MHS played a strong Rappahannock Raiders team on Monday, May 9, and traveled to King and Queen Central to take on the Royal Tigers on Tuesday, May 10 — results were unavailable at press time.
