Christine Marie “Chris” Williams

Christine Marie “Chris” Williams, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Westminster Canterbury in Richmond.

She was one of five children born to William and Marie Schacht of White Plains, N.Y.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, of 51 years.

She is survived by her children, Gwen Davis (Alan) and Mark Williams (Kylie); five grandchildren, Sam, Eloise and Wells Davis, Noah and Emme Williams; and siblings, Marie Wilson-Lago, Marilyn South, Peter Schacht and Paul Schacht.

Chris was born Aug. 26, 1940 in New York City and grew up in White Plains, N.Y. and attended Westbrook Junior College in Portland, Maine, before moving to Virginia.

Chris worked as a legal assistant for the entirety of her career and retired from Troutman Sanders. She loved to travel throughout the U.S. and Europe and one highlight was a trip on the Queen Elizabeth 2. She especially enjoyed time with family at their river cottage at Horse Point, attending grandchildren’s activities and loved to garden, sew and knit in her spare time. Skipwith United Methodist Church was Bill and Chris’s church home for many decades. Chris was very caring and nurturing and always made a point to put others first. She will be remembered for the impact that she made on others’ lives.

Following a private burial, a memorial service is planned for 2:30 p.m. May 18 at Westminster Canterbury Richmond, 1600 Westbrook Ave., followed by a reception. The family is grateful to the Hermitage and Westminster Canterbury for the love and care she received. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond.
