COVID-19 RETURNS

MC Public Schools report two testing positive for coronavirus last week — seven quarantined

by Larry Chowning –

COVID-19 is creeping back into the Middlesex County Public Schools (MCPS). After going through a stretch with no reports of COVID-19 cases, the MCPS school superintendent, Dr. Tracey Seitz, reported last week there were two individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 and seven individuals that came within close contact of the pair and were placed into quarantine.

Dr. Seitz reported families of those identified in close contact with the virus have been notified and it is not necessary for any other students to be quarantined at this time.

In keeping with Middlesex school system policy, the superintendent did not say whether the two testing positive for COVID-19 were staff members or students or both. She also did not say which MCPS school or schools these individuals were associated with.

During the time period from April 11 through 24, Middlesex County has had a total of 11 new cases. Since the Virginia Department of Health has been tracking the virus, Middlesex County has had 1,836 cases and 47 deaths from the virus at press time.
