Funding increases eyed for fire-rescue

County proposes $416,000 more as calls increase and fundraising drops

If the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors approves the proposed fiscal year 2023 (FY23) budget, this month volunteer fire and rescue departments will be seeing an increase in county contributions.

Proposed increases in fire and rescue volunteer squad contributions and paid emergency services contributions total $416,000. This includes $291,000 in new money for the volunteer fire and rescue squads in the county and $125,000 increase for paid Emergency Medical Services (EMS) contracts..

The proposed FY23 budget calls for a $48,500 increase for each of the four Middlesex fire departments and a $97,000 increase to the one volunteer rescue squad in the county. The FY23 budget covers the period from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023…
