Tennis team wins its first dist. match

by Don Richeson –

Middlesex High School’s (MHS) girls tennis team (3-1, 1-0) swept its first Tidewater District match of the season last week, defeating West Point 9-0. “Middlesex controlled the court play in most of their matches with solid tennis strokes and play,” MHS Coach Matthew Short said of the March 30 home face-off.

The Charger girls won all their singles matches in straight sets. In doubles, Middlesex’s first doubles and third doubles duos won in straight sets as well.

The MHS team is off for spring break this week, but has two home matches next week — 4 p.m. Monday, April 11 versus Northumberland and 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 13 versus Mathews.
