Fire quickly consumed a two-story older house at 3564 Old Virginia St. on Sunday night, March 27. The house was fully engulfed in flames when the 911 call came in at 8:22 p.m., said David Rose, assistant chief of the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD), who was incident commander at this fire.

The first firefighters arrived on scene in about nine minutes. The house is located near the intersection of Old Virginia Street and Warner Road at a crossroads named “Pine Tree,” about two miles west of Urbanna. County records indicate the property is owned by Laura Colley.

Firefighters from all four Middlesex County fire departments battled the blaze and remained on scene until midnight, said Rose. Fire departments responding include the MVFD, which is located in Urbanna, the Upper Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department of Water View, the Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department, and the Lower Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department located in Deltaville.

About 30 firefighters responded, said Rose. “It was a good turn out.”

The cause of the fire is undetermined, said Rose.
