Virginia Street town clocks fixed, returned to their sidewalk pedestal

Town employee Kevan Lipscomb tackles a timely task last week, installing Urbanna’s repaired town clocks on Virginia Street, following their removal after being on the fritz for an extended period. Speaking of clocks, you’ll want to turn all of yours ahead one hour Saturday night, as Middlesex County and most of the rest of the country spring forward to Daylight Saving Time. The town clocks on Virginia Street in the Town of Urbanna have been repaired and are back in service, said Urbanna Town Administrator Garth Wheeler last week. The clocks face in opposite directions and share a sidewalk area pedestal near Urbanna Post Office.

Several months ago, town citizen Sue Warner requested at a town council meeting that the town fix the clocks that she said had not been working for some time. Council agreed to have the clocks fixed.

The clocks were repaired by Buddy Wyker of the Fix-It-Shop in Urbanna and Sandra Matthews of Creative Designs of Virginia in Irvington. “The two clocks have been completely restored,” said Wyker. “All the moving parts were taken out and repaired and the numbers on the facing on the clocks were also redone by Creative Design.”
