The Urbanna Town Council is in talks with a second pool construction company that may be able to install a new pool quicker than a previous contractor, Town Administrator Garth Wheeler reported at the Feb. 24 council meeting.
The second company is a general contractor and has six crews, said Wheeler.
The town is in the early planning stages of building a new community swimming pool to replace the 52-year-old pool that has been closed for safety reasons.
The town will be applying for a grant that could pay for half of the pool. The grant is part of the Land and Water Conservation Fund through the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation in conjunction with the National Park Service.
Town officials recently met with Middlesex Board of Supervisors members Don Harris (Saluda District) and Chairman Lud Kimbrough (Pinetop District), and County Administrator Matt Walker to discuss possible pool funding assistance from Middlesex County.
