Spring is almost here and Urbanna is looking forward to outdoor activities.

At its Feb. 24 meeting, the Urbanna Town Council gave the green light to Councilor Marjorie Austin’s proposal to offer special events on Virginia Street on the fourth Friday of the month from May through October.
Austin told council the events would be “on” Virginia Street, which would be closed from Cross Street to Rappahannock Avenue. Merchants and vendors could set up on the street between 4 and 8 p.m.
Austin said Tappahannock, Ashland and Staunton offer similar events with live music and artists displaying their works.
Austin is in the planning stages and will need to coordinate permits to close the section of Virginia Street, and arrange for security.
“We should try it,” said Councilor Larry Chowning. “I think it’s a great idea.”
Austin also said June 25 has been set as the date for “food trucks” to set up in Taber Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. She is working with Urbanna Oyster Festival reps. Plans include a craft beer area and music.
