Middlesex High School’s girls basketball team took on the Mathews Blue Devils girls in away action Feb. 16 in the final game of the season. The Lady Chargers were once again short handed but “played with great intensity,” said Head Coach Neil Wake.
Mathews proved to be too strong for the Lady Chargers from the outset. The bigger, more experienced Lady Blue Devils led from start to finish and enjoyed a substantial 48-13 victory, leaving the Lady Chargers with an 0-8 record in the Tidewater District and 2-15 overall.
“This was a tough year for the girls and the coaches,” said Wake. “We learned a lot and hopefully the work will be put in use for better results next year.”
For the Lady Chargers, Javonya Chandler scored 5 points; Kaylynn Darnell, 3 points; Skylar Landon, 3 points; and Geriyah Cooke, 2 points.
Middlesex will lose one senior to graduation. “We thank our only senior, Laniya Hundley, for her leadership and guidance with this version of the Lady Chargers,” said Wake. “Your Charger Pride showed all year. We wish you well.”
