At a joint Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) and Middlesex County School Board (MCSB) budget work session last week, School Superintendent Dr. Tracy Seitz proposed a $784,715 local fund increase in the coming fiscal year budget (FY 23) over the current fiscal year budget (FY22).
The proposed FY23 budget calls for $12,316,267 in local spending, which includes a 5.7% raise plus a “step increase” for teachers. This amounts to a 7% overall salary increase for teachers and the budget proposal also calls for 7% salary increases for all other school employees.
The proposed FY23 budget calls for an overall 6.8% increase in local fund revenues over the FY22 budget and amounts to $11,169,803 in operation cost and $1,146,464 in debt service.
Estimated state revenue funds are $6,517,140, which is $419,007 or a 6.87% increase over the FY22 budget. Federal revenues are expected to increase to $855,351, which is a $53,697 increase, up 6.70%.
The increase in state aid is tied to student enrollment, which is expected to climb from 1,080 in the FY22 school year to 1,100 in the FY 23…
