The combined Middlesex-Lancaster high schools swim team has swimmers who qualified to participate in the state meet Thursday, Feb. 17, at the SwimRVA facility in Richmond.
“Out of our 11 swimmers, eight qualified for states,” Coach Morotini told the Sentinel. “Both boys relays qualified (the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay) and the girls 200 freestyle relay qualified as well. For individual events, Ella Hodges qualified in the 100 butterfly, Ashtyn Franklin qualified in the 500 freestyle, Riley Dean qualified in the 100 breaststroke, and Nielson McMinn qualified in the 100 breaststroke.”
She continued, “We have Lancaster swimmers as well, and both Morgan VerMeer and Ella Posey qualified for states in both of their individual events (the 50 and 100 freestyle).
Morgan won both of his events, beating the second place swimmer in the 50 free by four one-hundredths of a second (23.75 for Morgan and 23.79 for second place) and winning his 100 free by three seconds.”
