MHS girls basketball team shows fight, even in losses

by Tom Chillemi –

The Middlesex Lady Chargers lost 34-32 to the Lady Trojans of Essex County on Feb. 4. In a matchup highly contested throughout, the two teams fought to a tie at the end of the first quarter. Then the Lady Chargers surged ahead by 2 points by the half.

The Trojans would not go away and took an 11-point lead going into the fourth quarter. The Lady Chargers mounted a furious comeback in the fourth and had many chances to tie and go ahead but missed opportunities from the free throw line and miscues on layups helped the Lady Trojans secure the victory.

“The coaches have been wa1iting for this team to turn the corner and tonight was a good step,” said Middlesex girls Head Coach Neil Wake.

Chelsey Holmes led the Lady Charger scoring with 15 points. Teammates Kayleigh Moye had 7 points, Javonya Chandler 6 points and Skylar Landon 4 points. Geriyah Cooke had 12 rebounds.
