Although cases went down last week, COVID-19 continues to plague the Middlesex County Public Schools as there were 19 active cases in school buildings and on buses and 50 close contacts, resulting in quarantines.
“We continue to see higher levels of COVID-19 cases in the community,” said Middlesex School Superintendent Dr. Tracy Seitz. “We continue to follow the layered mitigation strategies we have in place and thank you for your assistance in keeping our schools safe and open.”
Jamaica District school board member Elliott Reed and Saluda District school board member Dr. Dana Burnett both noted at a public hearing on masking Friday, Jan. 21, that recent surges in COVID-19 in the schools were primary reasons for them not wanting to abide by Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s order.
The order mandates that parents will now make the decision as to whether or not their children wear masks in school — not school officials…
