The Middlesex High School (MHS) Lady Charger basketball team suffered a 58-28 Tidewater District loss at King William on Jan. 19. The Lady Chargers have mustered only one win this season but “continue to show promise,” said MHS Head Coach Neil Wake. The game was highly contested in the first half with the Lady Cavaliers holding a 10 point halftime lead. The Lady Chargers struggled coming out of the half with a slow start to the third quarter. The Lady Cavaliers outscored the Chargers 21 to 7 in the third quarter essentially putting the game out of reach.
The Lady Chargers have continued to have issues finding people to score points, said Wake. “The coaches know who the scorers are but their confidence level needs to be raised to gain more production,” he said. “This is a difficult year but the girls continue to work and that bodes well for the future.”
Again Chelsey Holmes led Lady Charger scoring with 16 points. Also for the Lady Chargers Javonya Chandler 4 points, Triniti Muse 4 points, Zikirah Morris 2 points, Geriyah Cooke 2 points and 10 rebounds. Sydney Rader hauled in three rebounds.
The Lady Chargers are in away action at Mathews on Friday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. Their next home game is Feb. 3 at 7 p.m., when they take on the West Point Pointer girls.
