Wanda Ann Buckner Garrett of Gloucester passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022.
“Ann” was born on Saturday, May 8, 1937, in Walhalla, S.C. to Hoy Nelson Buckner and Geneva McIntosh Buckner.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Benjamin Camm Garrett III; her parents; daughter, Ann Marye Garrett Toler; granddaughter, Julia Blair Garrett Moore; brothers, Dennis Buckner and Dale Buckner; and sister, Zelda Buckner Kimm.
She is survived by her son, James E. Garrett and his wife, Jean; grandchildren, Taylor Camm Garrett and his wife Danielle, Sara E. Goodson Garrett Krug and husband Taylor, John Garrett Toler and step-grandchildren Julia Santerre (Thomas), Jasmine McGraw (Mike), and Jade Chisholm (Matt); great-grandchildren, Ryan Patrick Moore Jr., Liam Peyton Moore, Reagan Elizabeth Garrett; and 11 step-great-grandchildren. A brother, Jerry Buckner of Chatsworth, Ga.; and a sister, Norma Buckner Moon (Warren) of Brookneal, also survive her.
Ann had many interests she was passionate about, but her desire to serve others was foremost. She served as a past president of Ware Circle of King’s Daughters, The Garden Club of Gloucester, she served on the Literary Committee for The Workforce Development Board, as a past Vestry member of Abingdon Episcopal Church, and on The Governor’s Cup Committee for Ware River Yacht Club.
She loved flower arranging and was a certified judge for the Garden Club of Virginia, an accomplished watercolor artist, and an avid Bridge player.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12 at Abingdon Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sven vanBaars presiding. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Interment will be private.
